I usually come here once a week. The reason I keep coming back for more is because of the customer service. Every time I walk inside, I'm always greeted with a happy smile. Since I come here often, the guy who always takes my order always says "spicy tuna 8 piece?" and I respond "yup". Love the fact that I don't have to say anything when I order. Haha. It''s not 5 star but this place is great for some quick yummy sushi.

Really good! Delicious gyoza. Good sushi
(4)Bonnie L.
I feel bad giving Sushi Hut 2 stars because I actually eat here all the time. Like the food is not that good, it's not THAT cheap and the setting isn't that great. BUT I always overdo it with sandwiches during lunch so my coworker and I like to go here every couple weeks. The guy who works here is SO nice. He knows me by name and talks REALLY loud. The food is always fast, but it's also not that great quality. The salmon roll I had today was weird and salty, the salmon not so fresh. But my stomach is like iron and he only charged me 50cents extra to replace the cali rolls. I don't even know why I'm reviewing this. My opinion on this should actually be thrown out the window. I just eat here because my coworker likes to go and I can eat anything. I would recommend this spot if you're OD-ing on Submarina and Chipotle and you want something different.
(2)Jose Q.
Meh. Wasn't terrible but had I known it was going to taste so boring I probably would've spent my money elsewhere.
(2)Angel Y.
I just like their teriyaki plate combo with "salad" and California rolls. $5.
(3)Vickie H.
in love with the food. (:

After I wrote this review I had a message from someone named j "tummy yummy" t.'s. He emailed me saying that he was a customer and that the cashier was very cordial to my mom and that nothing happened. He also said that the coupon I had couldn't be combined with any other offers but the stamp card was never on the restaurant.com thing. Anyhow, long story short...I did some digging into his profile and LOW AND BEHOLD...he works at sushi hut. Wow..he had the balls to email me as a customer when he freaking works there. I hate restaurants that have people write their reviews for them. And obviously in his review he gave them 5 stars....what a waste of a yelp account. See...no more nice Cindy right now.

Review is for Catering: Sushi Hut came to a surprise B-Day party I attended ;) and they were very impressive. They set up a sushi making table and made sushi for the many in attendance. The sushi was very good, and they worked incredibly fast. Food tasted fresh and the two people making the sushi were very professional and totally looked the sushi chef part. It seems past reviews are not very favorable, but take it from me someone who pwn's sushi all over the world, Sushi Hut gets a double thumbs up from me. Those who hate are being either way too picky or your a noob. If you want to be the talk of your next party hire Sushi Hut to cater your next get together, you cannot go wrong, if anything you will be ORIGINAL.
(4)Tara M.
I am not a sushi snob. But, I was sooo not impressed. I've tried the CA roll (it's whatever, it's fine, it's a CA roll) and the Lava Roll (edible, but kind of greasy and blah ). And that Lava roll was what, 8 bucks? No thank you. I'll drive thru Taco Bell next time I need to grab lunch during my workday, and at a fraction of the cost.

theres only three things that always keep me coming back to sushi hut: 1. chicken teriyaki bento special 2. crunchy roll 3. sriracha+mayo hot sawce! obviously this is not real , authentic japanese food but hey great for a quick bite before work. the teriyaki bento is always filling, always a pleasure to dip my chicken teriyaki in the hot sauce. i always get good service here ; never had a problem and food always came in a timely matter. i just hope they always put sesame seeds on the rice. oh yeah and one time the guy at the counter told me "arigatou~" when i picked up my food haha... im not japanese but that was quite cute.

Walk away. Just walk away.
(1)Charlton Y.
guys, this is sushi hut, not some nice sit down restaurant for sushi. This is fast, cheap, easy take out sushi and for that, its great. The guy who works their is friendly and easy going. I usually keep it reallly really simple and get the cali combo. It comes with some chicken teriyaki, four california rolls, and veggies. Nice little balance of everything, and its only $6. The food is good and fills your stomachs sushi craving and keeps your wallet full too. Plus, you can get one of the stamp cards and get a free meal after 10 stamps.. at least thats why i keep going back!
(4)Dena L.
I kinda feel like I can't accurately review Sushi Hut since I don't eat sushi, in fact, I only order one thing when I go there... but I go there so regularly that I am compelled to review it. I eat at Sushi Hut at LEAST once a week, often more frequently. I order the large teriyaki chicken bowl with no vegetables. They have spicy teriyaki sauce that add to my bowl also. I haven't seen another place with spicy teriyaki, but its yummy. It's only $5.27 with tax for my meal, and its definitely filling. They use chicken thighs, and while I am usually sensitive to fatty meat, I hardly ever have trouble with their meat. The employees there are friendly and almost all of them remember me and what I want when I come in. They also have loyalty cards that you get punched each visit to get a free meal after 10 visits. They are located in the interior of the "Mira Mesa Mall". I generally park in the back by the bowling alley, where there is usually parking readily available and it's right by Sushi Hut which is directly adjacent to Daniels Jewelers.

Hmmm, let me see ... Burger King, Sushi Hut or Cheetahs for Lunch??? They are all right next to each other so travel time is not an issue. Burger King will do it my way, Cheetah's probably has a free Buffet (amongst over things) and Sushi Hut has great Chicken Teriyaki Bowls. Ideally, If I could mash all three together that is where I would go but until that is possible, I choose Sushi Hut hands down! Their sushi is good but their Chicken Teriyaki Bowl are my favorite and their prices are amazing!
(4)sitara s.
This place is terrible!! Went there for lunch today. My husband had the lava roll which was basically fried batter inside with a miniscule amount of meat. I had the teriyaki bowl which was basically rice, chewy chicken with no flavor and raw carrots and cabbage. And it's not even cheap...we spent $16 on lunch. Will never go there again
(1)Yang C.
Dint touch the sushi, you have no idea how long its been there, the California rolls are just an atrocity. I used to like this place when it first opened, but they just got cheaper and cheaper, in terms of food quality that is. When i used to get the teriyaki beef, they used to used skirt steak or flank steak, the last time i went they just used beef that was stewed, poured some sauce on it and called it teriyaki beef. After that incident I refused to go anymore. I know you have to cut costs but gosh dang.................
(1)Jay P.
This place is so bad this is the first time I've ever commented on a business. Terrible quality food. I got the lava roll and the meat or whatever was inside was not as discribed. i threw it up about 10 tens ago hopefully i wont get sick later. Waste of money now heading out to get dinner (2nd time) somewhere else. HORRIBLE!
(1)Jonathan V.
When they added this place to Mira Mesa mall I thought it was a pretty good addition considering that there aren't a lot of eateries there anymore. It's a nice change of pace choice if you're tired of that sandwich or taco but also keep in mind if you are that all about sushi kind of person this is not the place to go and try to be impressed. This is for your quick and easy sushi fix which everybody needs and sometimes don't have the time to go to a sit in restaurant.
(3)Fukai C.
Got sushi hut's restaurant.com's gift card. Sushi is ok but way overpriced...and I'm pretty sure they overcharged me too.....don't think I'll be going back again.
(2)Noah M.
Hey, I admit it, I like eating at sushi hut. Why? My expectations are on par with what I am paying for. If I can get a plate of sashimi and rolls for under $10 I am not thinking it will be like Nobu. To me it's not bad at all, certainly not the best, but not horrible like some people are saying.
(4)Dan P.
Wanted to get a quick bite in after walking around Marshalls. Got the Bento #1 for about $5 (teriyaki chicken, rice, side salad) and for that, I am satisfied. Pretty much like any other chicken teriyaki style bowl or whatever which is exactly what I was looking for. I must say, however, the salad was pretty good (actual greens and not the white, iceberg, crappy lettuce stuff) and I like how there are a few sauces you can pump out for yourself (teriyaki, chili, and spicy teriyaki which is just the first two mixed it seems). Place was relatively clean and service was decently friendly. I figure it's a good place to get a quick and cheap meal to recharge. Not sure about their sushi... I doubt I'd seriously try it either.
(3)Emma l.
Awful & completely overpriced. I love sushi in every shape or form. Heck, I even love the pre-made stuff they dish out at Costco so its obvious I have pretty low standards. However, even with my low standards, I could not stand this place. Whenever I try a new sushi place, I make sure to always order the basics and a "specialty" roll since its pretty hard to mess up a california roll, right? WRONG. The California roll was just imitation crab meat wrapped in rice with a tiny piece of cucumber. There was NO mayo or avocado so you can imagine how dry it was doing down. What kind of a california roll doesn't even come with mayo?! Next, I was like, "They can't possibly mess up a shrimp tempura roll too. thats just pathetic..." WRONG. The shrimp was so overcooked that the texture was like rubber. We also ordered the fried crab roll (?), the Crunch roll, and the Lava roll. All of them came with fried pieces of shrimp or crab and all of it were extremely overcooked as well. Not only that, the seaweed didn't even seem fresh. Are you ready for the finale? They put LETTUCE in every roll. No, I'm not mistaken. They put a fat wad of lettuce in every roll for whatever reason, probably to make the rolls look bigger than they were. The sad thing is that the lettuce was all brown and had a bitter taste to it. One of my friends, who has never once complained about a meal, actually asked us if there was lettuce in our rolls too and complained about how everything was rubbery. That is pretty sad my friends. If you want a sushi fix but don't want to venture too far, I highly recommend Todo Sushi on Carol Canyon Road. They have amazing sushi rolls and I have never had a complaint. I even went 3 times a week at one point.
(1)Camie K.
UMMM, this place is ok. Not great enough for me to want to come back. Sushi quality is below par and lacking luster in presentation. They taste okay, fusion-esque. The staff members are fun and friendly though. The inner decor is interesting, seeing how you sit at the bar... but there isn't much of a bar, but rather, an open space into their kitchen. Interesting. Their price is rather on the cheap side. The good: You get to see what is being cooked in the kitchen. The bad: The lack of appeal--food quality and atmosphere together made me lost my appetite.
(2)Bernard B.
I don't understand why anyone would give this place more than 1 star. Seriously, skip this place unless you are really craving for sushi. I had probably eaten there 3 times and each time was basically a disappointment. They could probably improve by using fresh ingredients and better customer service. It's too bad because I have to drive to Clairemont to experience quality sushi.
(1)Abby N.
Sushi Hut is a fast food version of sushi establishments. It's quick, cheap and convenient. I personally think the sushi rolls are tasty and for just a few bucks you can get a decent Lava Roll or a Rainbow Roll. If I'm on a lunch break at work and I'm craving some fast sushi, I head over to Sushi hut which is less than 5 minutes from work. Not the best place to bring in a date or a huge group, but if you've got a sushi fix to take care of, Sushi Hut never fails.
(3)Mike D.
I love this place can be a litole pricy but well worth it
(4)Michele M.
My son wanted to eat here today. He likes their shrimp tempura. I keep telling him that it's frozen and they just fry it. It's nothing special but he doesn't care. What does a half Japanese kid know about shrimp tempura anyways? :) I had the chicken teriyaki and California roll plate. It was decent, I just wish it was served hot. Even the steamed rice was cold. How does that happen? My other problem with this place is their ventilation. My hair still smells like my son's fried shrimp tempura. Yuck.
(2)Kenobi N.
Why does this place get such bad reviews? I don't get it .. I've only been here once. And I ordered the California Combo for lunch which only came out to 4.99 + tax. You get chicken teriyaki, rice, steam veggies, and 4 california rolls. I mean ... that's a great deal?? I wouldn't say this was the best I've ever had, but its definitely not the worse.. reminder this is a FAST FOOD sushi place.. the reason why I gave this place 4 stars instead of 3 is because they have something I've NEVER ever seen at any other place ... is that they have ... THE SPICY MAYO for you to drench all over the food and cover up any foul taste! That's what did it for me! That spicy mayo was awesome, I might just come back and "borrow" it.
(4)Steve R.
Fast food sushi. That does not sound right BUT it is what it is. If anyone who reviews this place thinks they are getting "the sushi experience" move on to Tokyo Sushi Loha on El Cajon Blvd.. This is not a "sushi bar" at all. It is fast food sushi style and not always the best BUT much less than most sushi places and decent cheap grub. I accentuate the "grub" part. The bowls are decent enough tasting and the sushi is non descript but where do you get a caterpillar roll for $5 in town. The eel in it is very little and sometimes as noted by others the rice can be a bit on the warm side but again it is cheap by sushi bar standards and quick for the lunch crowd. I have gotten trays for parties and everything was eaten so it cannot be that bad! They tend to be about one half to two thirds the price of a regular place on all the rolls. The menu is online to look at. Not gourmet by any stretch but simple fast rolls and bowls.
(3)K P.
The sushi tastes like Americanized sushi and it's just not good. It reminds me of airport food. It's cheap and convenient, but I'm not a fan.
(1)Vicky L.
Prices are reasonable, you definately get what you pay for. The sashimi wasn't the freshest, but the rolls were ok. Would stay away from the raw stuff.
(3)M L.
The chicken teriyaki combo was okay. The chicken was edible, not delicious. The vegetables they put on the rice didn't taste very good. The broccoli was somewhat good. The California rolls were not made very well, they all fell apart and they didn't taste very good. If you really want Japanese food, go to another place.
(1)Bryan F.
This place is about the same quality as sushi deli 2 in downtown and people seem to love that place. So I'm not sure what is with some of the bad reviews. It's all fast food sushi for pretty cheap. They're rolls are also pretty big which is nice. Rainbow roll and caterpillar were good. The shrimp tempura roll was decent, lettuce in it was different and pretty good. The manager there was nice also. They were real busy so he gave us free drinks to apologize. Overall, a decent experience. May have to go there and try their non sushi combos since they looked pretty good.
(3)Glen G.
This place would be the Jack in the crack of sushi restaurants. It's cheap, it's fast and it's nothing exciting. Meh. Only go here if you want a cheap sushi fix. I only go here to get a quick fix of the chicken catsu bento box since it's down the street and if I wanted to dine in for sushi, then I would not be here at all.
(2)Elizabeth C.
Every sushi place has spicy mayo. You just have ask for it everywhere else. Anyways, yes this place is cheap but I'd rather go to happy sushi or mr. Wasabi.
(3)JC S.
Lettuce in pretty much every sushi roll! Enough said... i think Ralphs have better ready made sushi than this...
(1)Miriam D.
Please don't eat here. I have come here for lunch several times, the first time the rice on the sushi was hot! I thought meh their busy. Came back again hoping to have a better experience and my whole roll was hot, it was a tuna roll! WTF!? This place is obviously too busy with the lunch rush to cool down their rice before they make sushi with it, I've seen them take the rice out of the rice cooker and proceed to make a warm sushi roll. Never again sushi hut, never again.
(1)Jennifer A.
Offers a large selection of sushi plates and teriyaki bowls and combos at reasonable prices. The sushi was fresh, no fishy smell and pretty smooth texture. There weren't a lot of people there, probably because they just opened and that are bad location...inside a hidden tiny tiny shopping area which is located in a rather large plaza. There orange sauce is good - I think its just sriracha mixed with mayo, great with the california rolls. Their pickled ginger was a little too pungent though...phew could smell that from a mile away.
(4)Rachel H.
I've never had the sushi here. We always get the teri bowls (beef and chicken). Sushi Hut doesn't serve the super-most-wonderful food in the world, but it is good (we've never had a piece of grisly beef or chewy chicken) and the teri bowl portions are a good value for the money. The food may be fast food, but Sushi Hut sure beats the heck out of another burger !
(3)Angela C.
NASTY CRAP! They can't even call what they serve up sushi. I felt sick after I ate here. I can't even describe what they used as the tempura. And they stuff each roll with lettuce or something so it tastes more like a rotton salad. I will never go back there again.
(1)Mike T.
For me: Food Quality 3 Stars + 1 Star for Great Customer Service! My favorite is the Lava Roll. If you are interested in ordering party platters, owner allows you to substitute rolls with a small charge.
(4)Marina S.
I was so horrified that their rolls had LETTUCE inside. Really? We do NOT put lettuce in rolls. why? Because it's impossible to keep the rolls ROLLED. They disassemble the minute you touch them or pick it up with your chopsticks. Are they trying to cut cost by substituting lettuce where cucumbers are supposed to go? Seriously, sushi that falls apart when it gets picked up is not sushi. If you HAVE to come here because maybe you work around here (pretty industrial neighborhood), or you just need your dose of omega 3, i get it...just get a combo or something without the rolls and get nigiri - but I'm warning you that even those are made of dry rice and dry fish...you really CANNOT call what they serve here SUSHI.
(1)James F.
I decided to finally try this place an hour and half before closing, since they offered $20.99 all you can eat sushi, figured it'd be a good deal. However, average food chained to numerous restrictions, and fairly cold service heavily cripple its AYCE offering. Food & cost: As mentioned, $20.99 for AYCE sushi. However, sushi was pretty bland - fish was ok at best, while the rice was dry. Did not care for the rolls that much. Nigiri is hard to mess up and was their saving grace. However, unlike a lot of other sushi restaurants that allow two pieces per order. this place only allowed 1 piece per round of orders, two rounds max. Overall for the price, amount, and quality, not worth it. It's sad to say, but the package sushi prepared at Costco tasted better than this place. Atmosphere & service: It's in a little strip mall. Nothing fancy, but not barren. Service that night, however, was pretty sad. Cashier had her back turned to the counter, was busy doing some kind of prep work, gave her a pass on that. For the rest of the night, with just a family as the other customers, the cashier/server was quite unattentive and not particularly friendly. Meh is apt for this place. It wasn't so actively and terribly hostile to warrant a 1-Star, but it certainly wasn't trying to earn much sympathy from me.
(2)Laura Y.
Most of their rolls consist of something tempura fried or crab...with avocado and cucumber and maybe a different type of fish to be wrapped with. I can see how if you work in the shopping center, it's a cool place to go. But I wouldn't drive out of my way to visit. No waiters/waitresses. You order your food and when it's done they just kind of wave you down to come get it. In my opinion, it's unprofessional. I guess this is the "fast food" of sushi. Overall, not impressed.
(2)valerie m.
I like this place for pick up! I have come here in the past when I have been in MM. Now whenever I am over here, I usually go to find Pho or Thai somewhere nearby. But I was really craving a bit of sushi, my son likes teriyaki and my mom wanted some egg rolls so this was perfect and quick. They were so nice. I have a box of teri chix, cali rolls, a couple pieces of sushi, salad and rice, all which was fantastic. The chix perfectly cooked and their sauce is perfect. We also had egg rolls which my mom liked, fried nice and crispy brown. They came with sweet and sour sauce which was exactly that. The california roll was good. Look, I am a huge sushi fan and can get picky, but for basically fast food, this was good. He rolled them to order too. The sushi I had in my box was a piece of shrimp and salmon both of which were fine. Obviously didn't melt in my mouth but good. We also took home an order of california rolls and my son actually ate some. He enjoyed them also. All in all, I will come back when in a hurry and want some not so expensive food, great teriyaki and service.
(4)Van L.
Amazing Sushi. I wish there location was better so others can be exposed to such authentic and delicious sushi. They are amazing caters. I have had many corporate events in which I have hired them to cater too and they went above and beyond. Not one person had a complaint about the food which is rather difficult when you are feeding close to a thousand individuals. I love their fusionistic ideas in regards to sushi, ideas I have yet to see else where. It is a small store that seems rather generic, once you have tasted there exquisite flavors and combinations your mind will be blown. They even deliver to your home if you are too lazy to drive to Mira Mesa. I love how they don't just have sushi the typical seafood sushi, they can also incorporate chicken and beef into their rolls for those whom do not enjoy consuming ocean creatures. Fun place, great staff, awesome food!
(5)Gina M.
My favorite sushi place excellent service ! Always nice and welcoming ! Love coming here
(5)Janette S.
This place was terrible! Ordered the spicy tuna roll and rainbow roll and I don't know how to make sushi but I swear I could have done a better job. The only thing fresh about either roll had to be the cucumber bits and even then it tasted day old! SMH Never going here again!
(2)Vannica K.
The place is under new management and in loving the changes so far! They now do delivery and all you can eat sushi at certain times .
(4)Nalini B.
This place is simple and easy, and they get 5 stars for being great at it. It's what you expect: strip-mall sushi but for very fair prices, great service, fast delivery and pick-up, and they always accommodate requests. Bento boxes are a fantastic value.
(5)Beth E.
Love this place. Super cool guy.. Idk if he the owner but he's real nice. And their rolls are delicious! And it's not overpriced either!
(5)Casey F.
I ordered Sushi from here a few nights ago, and it was the worst decision I have made lately with a place to go to diner. The appearance of the place is very run down, not to mention it was absolutely dead. The food was awful. I barely ate 5 pieces (I tried to eat one of each 6 rolls we ordered) and I wanted to swear off sushi! The sushi was not prepared properly and you could see that the person who made it didn't care much about his art, they were poorly put together. The staff was friendly enough, not much interaction with them though. Over all, I would not recommend it to anyone. Service will pass, but the food is awful. Do yourself and favor, and continue walking by.
(1)Xu C.
Nice neighborhood sushi restaurant for the area, clean, reasonable, good variety, low price and good sushi. All were served very fast!
(5)Gavin W.
i had dinner here at 2 month ago. the food really good and really cheap. the most amzing thing is the chef there. they made very good job, and the boss is really bueatful.
(5)Nancy W.
Either though it takes awhile for the food to come out I would still recommend this place! i have tto d the spider roll, california crunch, edamame, fried gyoza, california hand roll. It kind of took awhile for everything to come out but over was not bad. Sad to say it wasnt very fresh
(3)Marissa D.
I'm a regular here. Come here occasionally, if not once a month. Their sushi is pretty good and the prices are reasonable! They're pretty good for an express. The place though is a whole in the wall, hence why I'm giving them 3 stars. Other than that, their sushi is good! Their bowls or bentos are alright, I prefer doing just sushi rather than their bowls/bentos here. The service people are nice. :-)
(3)Sara Bella R.
If you are craving Japanese food on the go, you may consider eating at Sushi Hut. (Although Albertsons has great sushi and offers 3 rolls for $12.99). This is fast food Japanese food. They have many rolls to choose from and do offer bento box meals. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant is usually clean. I happen to like their dragon and unagi rolls. I used to be a fan of their crunch rolls, which are fried in tempura.
(3)kim c.
Going back weekly at the least! They are constantly trying to improve things. Pretty plates, new specials, new menu items. Really convenient location. Hours aren't late night...yet. Dreaming of late night sushi and yogurt from the same mall!
(5)Chili B.
Not bad. Hey it's fast food Japanese. It's cheap and tasty. The chicken terriyaki is actually very moist and delicious. It was better than a lot of sit-down Japanese restaurants. Good quality meat. The california rolls were cut thick and were good. They are made fresh to order. They have bento box specials that are a great deal. Good for a quick meal.
(4)Randy S.
OK I Lived in Japan for 25 years and sushi in Cali just is not the same, that said, I am rating based on sushi in my area. First the sushi is not bad, 3.5 stars maybe. The customer service bumps this up to 4. I'm currently on crutches and asked for a large bag, I ordered a tray of sushi. He didn't have a bag, but he carried everything out to my car for me. The customer service up till this point was also very good. I found out they do deliver for $5.
(4)Tina T.
I'll come here when I need to carbo load a few hrs prior to a gym session or after. Instead of getting sushi from a grocery store, which I am guilty for doing sometimes, I'll come here because it's pretty much the same thing and they make it when you order it. Definitely a good stop if you want fast, cheap, and basic quality sushi only! They do stamp cards!
(3)Chad S.
For fast food Japanese this place is surprisingly good. Food is always fresh. I like the chicken teriyaki plate with California rolls. Their Miso soup is great. Njoy!
(4)Steve F.
Sushi Hut is probably the equivalent of a fast food joint... not as flashy as a regular dining establishment, but the food's priced affordably (if not the same as actual sushi restaurants), and it's actually not that bad. On previous visits, I've had their teriyaki bowls, which were delicious; last night I ordered the Hawaii roll (a spicy tuna roll topped with tuna and avocado). I was given a cup for water without asking - a huge plus - and after five minutes my order was ready. The roll was visually appealing, and it tasted delicious... if not a bit spicy. Perhaps it was because of the spicy tuna, or because I mixed all the wasabi with the soy sauce (and they give you a lot of wasabi here). While I'll continue to head to Bamboo Hut or Kappa Sushi for the sushi "experience", Sushi Hut will work just fine if you want a quick sushi fix. Be warned, though - their hours of operation here are a bit weird (I've never seen a place close at 8:15, but they do here).
(4)Kerra A.
this place is never really busy in the dine-in area, but when you walk in the cook is always cooking. For phone orders maybe? Anyways, not too bad. Fast food Japanese food & decently priced. If you're a hardcore sushi critic don't expect too much, remember...I said fast food Japanese food....
(3)Jacky P.
If you're looking for cheap, edible sushi, come here. Otherwise, avoid. The saying, "you get what you pay for" applies here. While a lot of the items are cheap/average-price, taste-wise is meh. I could definitely say I've had better, but I'm not sure if I've ever had worse. Who sticks lettuce in sushi?! What.
(2)Albert W.
Blech! The quality has gone from "okay" to "horrendous" here. Our hero noted that the sushi was wrapped in damp nori, the packing of rolls was very loose such that they fell apart, and the fish tasted horribly bland and stale. This is now worse than that gringo fare they serve up at Sushi Deli. Our hero felt horrible after downing a sushi combo here recently. Also, they've upped the minimum purchase amount for applying a restaurant.com coupon here. What was once a great deal for passable sushi with the restaurant.com coupons is now an inedible excuse for a sushi chain. PROS: - Pretty cheap meals from $3.99 and up. - Pretty clean and ample seating. CONS: - The staff here pretty much doesn't care and it shows in the service and the preparation of the food. - Quality of the sushi and the fish is horrible, even for fast food sushi. - It's tough to buy enough food for their restaurant.com coupon. You really have to take a family of four there to get that much food.

I like to go here because it's really close to my barber (at the Mira Mesa Mall). The sushi is pretty good. I usually order the $4.99 Teriyaki plate that comes with 4 pcs of CA roll, rice, teriyaki chicken, and a small salad. It's pretty filling. I've tried some of their other rolls and they're pretty good too. I think they still have some $10 combos that include their specialty rolls. I like going here for a quick bite. Everything is at the MM Mall (Marshall's, Bed Bath, Kohl's, Vons, Yogurt, bunch of banks, Dollar Store...) making this place really convenient. Sushi Hut to me is, Decent sushi for a really good price in a very convenient location.

Come here all the time for lunch with co-workers, and today for my bday lunch. Food is always fresh, fast and delicious! Great prices too! Less than 5 bucks for the standard teriyaki plate,,,, mmmmm! I'd post a pic but I ate it all already. They over heard it was my bday and I got a little something extra with my meal :) thanks guys!! Try this place out!

Excellent customer service. Id come back, not just for the food, but because the level of customer service we recieved was so outstanding, I couldnt help but smile my whole way back to work!

The triple bowl combo is enough to feed 2 people. With a small drink it's only $10. Cheap lunch but oh so satisfying!

I think that they have a big selection and prices are great. I do like the Bento box that includes a lil bit of everything and it is close to work so I will def be back

Doesn't even taste like sushi.

Pretty much the fast food of sushi. Sushi should NOT be fast food. Served on trays, McDonald's style? No thanks. The combination plates didn't seem appetizing. $6 for a mere eggroll, 8 California Rolls, & a drink. One eggroll? C'mon. I can get more off of a dirty prostitute for $6. They played nice music though. That's a plus, I guess.

I would say although it is not the best (it is more of a "fast food" Japanese sushi), the sushi here is pretty good for the price. I like to get my sushi here when I can't drive all the way to Convoy just to fix my sushi craving. Also, most of their staff is friendly, they seem to have good hygienic practices (never had a problem here. meets the standards of what a decent/good restaurant should have), and also have a pretty convenient location (although a a bit/small walk from parking lot area since its more within). So these good factors and how much I love their caterpillar roll and their kind and willing accommodation (for instance if you want to change the type of fish used- since my stomach cannot take eel) contribute to the stars I put. Their food tastes good and fresh! Good prices, good service, and pretty good food overall. I recommend their caterpillar roll and Steak [Teriyaki] Bowl (both delicious, especially the caterpillar roll- love avocados!). :) Awesome place overall!

It's okay. I went there with a friend with a coupon from restaurants.com . The clerk said that they didn't respect my coupon for 25 off of 35 anymore, but they only respect the 25 off 45 coupon now. I was shocked, but since my friend and I had already gone there, we were already settled on eating there. We ordered several things and ate. Over-all, it was okay. Nothing stands out. The fish itself was okay. For this kind of establishment, I wasn't expecting much. The Salmon didn't have much of a salmon flavor. He DID hook us up with a free drink, but that's about where it ended. Over-all, if you just feel like getting some rolls or something, it's fine. But if you wanttomse quality sushi/ Japanese food, go somewhere else.

The food isn't great here, we are talking about from the Grocery Store aisle type sushi. Honestly, if I did a taste test with my eyes closed, I could swear my rolls came from the already made sushi section from Vons. That being said, 18 rolls for $6.50 isn't bad. If you want to fill up with sushi on a day you are craving it, but don't want to spend too much money, and you live or work near Mira Mesa, this could be it. I would stay away from their $5.50 for 8 rolls selection, they are not worth it. You can get better tasking sushi for the same price somewhere else.

DO NOT BUY THEIR RESTAURANT.COM GC's!! I bought 4 because I went here once and thought they had decent cheap sushi and since the BF and I love sushi, that the coupons (10$ off if you spend 20$) would come in handy. HOWEVER they charge you $4 to use them! and if you get the 25$ off if you spend 50$ they charge you 8 dollars. They claim it's the 18% "tip". First of all it's a counter, there's no waitresses so I personally think tipping them is a joke. Also the guy behind the counter who I was trying to figure out this with did not seem to be the person getting the "tip" because he didn't really know why they charged $4 and what it was for except that he kept saying "thats what i'm supose to do whenever someone has a coupon"....ok...ALSO 18% of 20 is NOT 4 dollars...I know 3.60 is pretty close but still... So now i have 3 more coupons to use, and i guess it's not THAT bad considering I still get 6 dollars off in the end but I just think their sneeky and I don't like it! Now in terms of their food quality, it's..."OK" I've never had a problem from their fish not being fresh and I usually see a nice crowd of people in there so I don't think their fish sits around for a while, but their selection is rather lacking, and they definately have some unique twists like adding lettuce to rolls and rolls with chicken? Overall the food is 3 stars, service is 3 stars (considering they're nice they're just doing their job) but the management/owners suck!

Great Sushi! Perfect cuts of fresh, flavorful fish! They have some pretty creative sushi rolls like their: Spicy Scallop Roll, Hawaiian Roll, Crispy Philadelphia Roll & Lava Roll. Of course they offer the basics like the Californian & Caterpillar. The service is fast & friendly! And their prices & portions can't be beat! Two thumbs up & a Happy Belly! :)

My wife always wanted to have a party with a live sushi chef so I researched all of my options and found Sushi Hut had the best deal and prices in San Diego. The surprise birthday sushi party was a great success and it was such a fun experience for her and her guests. David was the point of contact and he actually even ended up being one of the two sushi chefs that came to prepare sushi for us in the rec hall of our complex. He made sure everything was as we wanted. They came one hour before the party to set up and made sushi for the next 2 hours before they packed it up. Sushi Hut had may options of sushi for us including teriyaki steak and chicken rolls for the non sea-foodies. I would definitely recommend looking to Sushi Hut next time you want to do something different for your personal parties. You need to look past all of the bad reviews from the people who pretend to be sushi gurus here and do it for the fun-factor. If they want "top of the line" $14 sushi rolls they can go to a dine-in sushi place. Sushi Hut is a bang for your buck place to get a fast sushi roll or two.

Its mediocre, fast food sushi and teriyaki bowls...the "jack in the box" of sushi. Almost as bad as cafeteria food. Id rather get the sushi at vons than come here again.. Being a chef I know a fresh cut of fish, here they don't have it... Wasn't surprised when my coworker got sick after eating there...
